Raise Our Voice Australia (ROVA) has become one of Australia’s leading voices empowering young women and gender-diverse people to participate in politics, advocacy and civic leadership. Through education, campaigns and community initiatives, the organisation had built a strong reputation for inspiring participation. However, as ROVA matured, its leadership recognised that campaigning alone would not achieve the long-term systemic change it envisioned.
The organisation wanted to evolve into Australia’s leading leadership incubator for future policy makers, civic leaders and changemakers. While its programs already reflected this ambition, its communications, positioning and participant journey still centred heavily on campaigns rather than leadership development. There was an opportunity to clarify its purpose, strengthen its value proposition, simplify how people engaged with its programs and establish a roadmap that could guide growth over the next five years.
Transforming a campaign into a national leadership movement
brandkind partnered with ROVA to develop a comprehensive Communications and Transformation Strategy that repositioned the organisation around a single, enduring idea: Raising Leaders for Lasting Change.
Rather than delivering a conventional messaging framework, Susan designed a five-year transformation roadmap that mapped ROVA’s evolution from a campaign-led organisation into a nationally recognised leadership movement. The strategy outlined clear phases—from repositioning and program refinement through to national expansion, institutional partnerships and ultimately an alumni-led ecosystem that sustains long-term impact.
Central to the work was reframing the narrative from advocacy to leadership. We developed a messaging framework that shifted the conversation from “raising voices” to building capable leaders who can influence policy, strengthen communities and drive structural change. This narrative was supported by a language guide, story architecture and messaging principles that could be consistently adopted across every communication channel.
Beyond positioning, the strategy redesigned how participants experience ROVA. We developed a clearer leadership pathway that transformed individual programs into connected stages of growth—from introductory experiences through to leadership opportunities. Calls to action were redesigned to become invitations into a long-term leadership journey rather than one-off program registrations, while alumni stories, research and evidence were positioned as proof of lasting impact.
To ensure the strategy could be embedded across the organisation, brandkind also created practical implementation tools including a Strategy-on-a-Page, activation resources, internal workshops, messaging guides, onboarding recommendations, partnership resources and content priorities that aligned future communications with the long-term vision.
The outcome
ROVA now has a strategic foundation that extends well beyond communications. The organisation has a clear roadmap for evolving from a respected advocacy organisation into a nationally recognised leadership builder, with every touchpoint aligned to that vision.
The new strategy creates consistency across messaging, programs and stakeholder engagement, making it easier for young people, educators, partners and funders to understand where ROVA creates value and how they can participate. Program visibility has been strengthened through a clearer participant journey, while research, storytelling and alumni success are positioned to reinforce ROVA’s credibility and influence over time.
Most importantly, the strategy establishes a scalable model for long-term systems change. Rather than measuring success purely through campaign reach, ROVA is now equipped to build an enduring pipeline of diverse civic leaders whose impact will continue to shape communities, policy and public life for years to come.
